        I picked up the ram, but my system still only reads 4 GB and only 1 slot. Any suggestions? I swapped the ram just to see if one might be bad, but same results.

    18 exabytes? Or 16 exabytes? The reason you said 18 exabytes is because it is based on 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes. 18 exabytes if you use the decimal definition of exabytes. 16 exabytes if you use the binary definition of exabytes.

      Ain’t that 16 exibytes? The difference between a an i. is the base10 en base2 calculation.

    This article needs an update. macOS can now support 1.5 TB of RAM at least since the Mac Pro can be configured with that much.

        Can you give credible source of this information? 18 EB is beyond anything. Theoretically yes, but practically no. There is no hardware that can test this much of memory.

    Do you see the same performance on battery only vs. when plugged in? Many laptops will drop to 33% or less cpu usage when on battery.
    Also I would open up your task manager and look at the performance tab to see what your CPU usage, disk usage, disk read/write speeds are. If there’s high disk usage and low read/write speeds I’d have a look at how full your SSD is and what type of interface it uses.

    There’s no general way to make applications use more RAM, and in general, they will use what they need to. Some apps _MAY_ have some settings that influence the way RAM is used and how much but you’ll need to check each one individually and this tend to be only be true for I/O demanding applications.

    Hello, i have a question. I am running windows 10 enterprise, 64bit on my thinkpad t480. It has 32GB of ram and 500GB SSD. It is very slow when trying to do tasks and it never uses more than 15% of the memory. Is there a way to use more ram for tasks/programs? Thanks

      You could probably remove 16GB of RAM as it’s unluikely that your programs need that much RAM anyway.
      Speed is really down to the Processor such as the faster i7 CPUs.

      There is also a very big difference in speed between an SSD and a M.2 SSD

      Try scanning with Malwarebytes Free Edition as I have recently removed 620+ PUPs from one laptop which had slowed it down to a crawl.

      I recomend to check the temperature of your CPU, to high temperatures wil cause the cpu to throtle it’s speed.
      I would recomend openhardware monitor to do this.

      As this is a portable device (laptop) and no desktop there are probably two options:
      – If your fan is configured in silent mode temperatures in idle should not be higher than 80°C.
      – If your fan is configured in performance cooling mode, temperatures in idle should be lower than 60°C.

      When temperatures are above 90-95°C most cpu’s wil start to throtle their speed to prevent overheating. As a result you will notice reduced performance.

      Another possibility is wrong temperature readings, wrong temperature readings can result in slow performance and loud enoying fan noice.

      open run command by pressing windows key+R at the same time then type in msconfig go to boot options from the top tab then look for advanced click on it you will see the number of cores of your processor and amount of ram your computer is using maximize the memory and then restart you will feel the effects you can also check it in my this pc properties
