We have decided to focus exclusively on RAM upgrades and SSD for client systems, workstations and servers again from now on, so we no longer have CPUs in our range.

Today’s requirements for servers are pretty challenging: besides processing giant amounts of data effortlessly, it is expected to happen at top speed. In order to meet this demand, sufficient RAM is needed as well an adequate processor performance. In other words, CPU and RAM work hand in hand.

It is not mandatory to acquire a new device in order to increase the operating speed and capacity of a server. Instead, it should be considered to upgrade the computer memory and – closely related – to replace or extend the current processor(s).

Often, not all CPU sockets in Dual/ Quad processors are equipped or fitted with older CPUs that work slower. First, it must be made sure that all sockets are equipped, in order to achieve the server’s highest performance. When doing so, it is important that only identical CPUs are used. This means, the additional CPU has to be chosen according to the existing CPU(s); if all sockets are already equipped, the existing CPUs can be replaced with higher efficient models of the same or the subsequent generation as well.

Another advantage: the extension of CPUs allows more memory as well. In a multi-processor system, the maximum RAM is only available if all CPU sockets are equipped. The full utilisation of RAM capacity is not mandatory; however, it might be useful to know that an even distribution of RAM to the existing CPUs is not always necessary. All CPUs are able to access the full inserted RAM.

With adding Intel Xeon CPUs to CompuRAM’s portfolio, we would like to give our customers the possibility to give their system fresh impetus without much effort. The RAMinator, our free system analysis tool – recently extended by some functionalities -, supports finding the matching memory modules and CPUs. Its report now shows the current CPU situation of the read system and suggests matching CPUs.

The Xeon CPUs sold by CompuRAM are mainly tray CPUs: by waiving cooler, manual and retail packaging, the acquisition costs are being reduced. Moreover, Xeon CPUs as tray can be integrated easily and fast into existing servers.
