Oracle Sun Cobalt Server memory upgrades

Server memory upgrades for Oracle Sun Cobalt

Sun Microsystems was founded in 1982, following a project of the Stanford University Network regarding the networking of library computers. Throughout the years, the company became a well-known manufacturer of hardware and software and made a strong impact with its development of Java as system independent programming platform in 1995. In 2010, Sun was acquired by the Oracle Corporation.

The Linux-based server line Cobalt was developped by Cobalt Networks and later acquired by Sun. The servers that are optimised for rack installation simplify server management with a self-developped graphical user interface and are equipped with a modified Red Hat Linux operating system. Sun Cobalt is a powerful and versatile network server with its x86 processor and can be integrated easily into an existing network. It provides all features of a virtual e-mail and web hosting platform. Sun phased out this server line after only a few years in order to further concentrate on the Solaris development.
