Server memory upgrades for Silicon Graphics Altix
In 1981, Silicon Graphics International (SGI) was founded in the US state California. In the following years, it became well-known as a manufacturer of PCs with special graphical capabilities and high-end graphical workstations for the rendering of animations and cartoons. Today, the company is proud of supplying highly demanding technical solutions for high-performance computing (HPC), servers, storage, data centres and cloud computing on a global level.
Silicon Graphics provides with Altix a comprehensive server and server cluster family: it ranges from the smallest model with energy-saving CPU to high-end servers with up to 512 Itanium-2 processors. Altix servers are based on NUMAlink technology and are consistently equipped with Intel-Itanium or Itanium-2 processors. With the introduction of the Altix servers, SGI's ongoing support of the Linux development has intensified - the Open Source OS helps reducing the total cost of ownership in IT departments. Thanks to their scalability, versatility and cost efficiency, the Altix servers are a frequently used server platform.
