Being one of the first PC manufacturers, Apple was largely responsible for their increasing popularity in the 70ies. In the 80ies, Apple pioneered with the commercial introduction of the graphical user interface and the mouse. The products of this US American company have been seen as cult objects by an ever growing fan community, not only since the development of iPod, iPhone and iPad. It makes Apple one of the most valuable brands in the world. Apple's portfolio comprises high-class notebooks, ultramodern mobile devices as well as operating systems and application software besides desktop PCs, workstations and servers. With its iTunes store and its App store (iOS), Apple is also forerunner when it comes to the distribution of digital goods.

Being part of the desktop PC range with PowerPC processor which Apple labelled Power Macintosh or Power Mac, the Power Macintosh G3 was originally introduced for private use due to its lower internal expandability possibilites. However, soon after its launch in late 1997, it became obvious that the pure computing power of Power Mac G3 clearly exceeded the more expensive Power Mac 9600's and thus, was often used in a business environment as well. G3 models are available in - most commonly - desktop versions, mini Towers and all-in-one versions with integrated 15" screen. In August 2006, Power Mac was removed from Apple's product range and replaced by a Mac Pro run on an Intel processor.
